About

Mission

We are a 501c3 organization, a non-profit entity. Our mission at the Southern Forest Heritage Museum & Research Center is to provide educational opportunities to promote better understanding of the historic, cultural, and economic influences of the lumber industry of the early 20th century and to maintain one of the nation's most complete historic sawmill complexes with its extensive collection of steam-powered logging and milling equipment. The Southern Forest Heritage Museum was placed on the National Register of Historic Places  in 1995 and was elevated to the National Level of Significance in 2008

Current Museum News

On May 28th the Southern Forest Heritage Museum will be having a redo of hosting its first event of the year 2021!

Sadly, train rides on the Doodlebug, M-4, will not be available for awhile as routine track maintenance has revealed some issues that will take some time to rectify. Sorry for any inconvenience this may cause.
